A Little Story of How Dover Floor Covering Got Started.
Jeff Dean, the owner of Dover Floor Covering, has been in the flooring business for over 34 years. He started out working for a small family owned home improvement company in Royal Oak MI named Curtis Paint and Linoleum. He worked in all of the home improvement areas including windows, paint and wallpaper but he especially liked working in the carpet, vinyl and hardwood flooring areas of the store (there was no laminate products at the time since it was 1977). He worked his was up from there.
After approximately 3 years there he moved into the New York Carpet World chain of flooring stores. He started out in sales where he won numerous awards for sales achievement. One day the district supervisor came to visit the store and said "I've been told that the reason why you sell so much carpet was because you love your customers and because of that, you spend too much time with each of them. We would like you to spend less time with them so that you can wait on more customers". Well that didn't go over too well with Jeff since he believed that his success with each customer was predicated upon the fact that he did love his customers and only wanted what was best for them and that took time. Needless to say, Jeff never changed his style of presentation!
Jeff went up the New York Carpet World system where he ended up managing some of the stores. Being a manager at NYCW trained Jeff in carpet inspections, customer relations, field testing, carpet installation inspections and many many more areas.

After almost 21 years at NYCW, Jeff Dean needed another challenge in his life so he started his own carpet business (Dover Floor Covering). While Jeff was mulling over what type of flooring store he would like to start, whether a stand alone store or some type of "Shop at Home" flooring store, he started thinking about what the customers wanted the most. He remembered how he had gotten in hot water at NYCW because he had gone out to customers homes with carpet samples to make sure that their choice of carpet color would match their decor. They had wanted him to stay in the store where he could wait on more customers instead of being out at homes servicing his clients. To make a long story short, he chose to start a "Shop at Home" style floor covering company since that seemed to be what his customers wanted most (not to mention how much less it cost to start this type of company as opposed to a brick and mortar store).
Fast forward to today and Jeff has been going out to people's homes with carpet, hardwood, vinyl and laminate samples for over 23 years now. So with over 40 years experience in the flooring business you can say that Jeff has just about seen it all. With thousands of happy customers referring Jeff to new clients everyday, he is content in helping his customers to make the right flooring decisions.
