All solid hardwood flooring must be nailed down over an approved substrate such as plywood or OSB. This hardwood floor cannot be installed below grade or on a cement base floor. Also, hickory solid hardwood flooring is not particularly dimensionally stable so wider boards will expand and contract more with changes in humidity levels in the home. With this being said, it is more important to have stable humidity levels in the home to stop excessive movement in the floor. Relative humidity should be kept between 45% and 55% ideally.
